Mayfair Luxury Bar and Lounge Interior Design

Project Overview

Located in the heart of Mayfair, this boutique cocktail lounge was designed as an intimate destination inspired by the atmosphere of London’s exclusive private members’ clubs. The brief called for a sophisticated setting that would offer guests a memorable evening experience while supporting the demands of a busy commercial bar.

Oraanj Interiors brought together hospitality design, material selection and operational planning to create a cohesive interior. Honed marble, rich burgundy velvet, warm brass accents and amber lighting establish the character of the venue, while carefully planned seating areas provide different settings for socialising and private dining.

Our approach combined the expertise of an interior designer in Mayfair with specialist bar interior design, ensuring that the visual details worked alongside the practical requirements of the space.

Sculptural Marble Bar and Back-Bar Display

The central bar forms the focal point of the lounge. Its sculptural marble counter features a full bullnose edge, creating a substantial architectural feature with a refined finish. Integrated brass footrails introduce a warm metallic detail while providing practical support for guests seated at the counter.

Behind the bar, illuminated display shelving showcases bottles against a warm backdrop. Bespoke joinery incorporates amber-toned lighting to add depth and draw attention to the display without overwhelming the surrounding interiors.

The bar was also planned around the needs of the service team. Commercial stainless steel speed rails, rapid ice wells and integrated glassware chilling stations help streamline drink preparation and movement behind the counter.

Burgundy Velvet Seating and Private Dining

Seating was designed to balance comfort, privacy and efficient circulation. Burgundy velvet barstools complement the marble counter, while intimate banquette booths create more secluded spaces for guests.

The seating scheme includes:

  • Commercial-grade, stain-resistant burgundy velvet upholstery
  • Fluted timber backs that add texture and visual rhythm
  • Velvet-wrapped acoustic partitions between selected seating areas
  • A grand marble fireplace that strengthens the lounge’s character
  • A private dining salon arranged beneath a statement crystal chandelier

These elements create distinct experiences within the same venue, from drinks at the bar to longer, more private dining occasions.

The acoustic partitions also help manage ambient conversation, supporting a more comfortable environment when the lounge is busy.

Layered Lighting for an Intimate Atmosphere

Lighting plays a central role in defining the lounge’s mood. Rather than relying on a single lighting scheme, the design combines concealed LED cove lighting, illuminated shelving, cordless brass table lamps and decorative statement lighting.

Four preset architectural lighting scenes allow the atmosphere to shift throughout the evening, moving from warm dusk tones towards a lower-level amber glow. The lighting is designed to highlight the marble, velvet and brass finishes while maintaining a comfortable environment for conversation.

In the private dining salon, the crystal chandelier provides a focal point, complementing the more discreet lighting used throughout the seating areas.

Coordinating Hospitality Design and Function

A successful cocktail lounge needs to operate as effectively as it looks. Bar equipment, staff circulation, seating positions and lighting controls all require careful coordination during the design process.

At this Mayfair venue, the relationship between the service counter and guest seating was considered alongside the selection of materials and decorative details. Durable upholstery, practical bar equipment and integrated lighting help address the demands of a commercial hospitality environment.

The project reflects Oraanj Interiors’ approach to hospitality design, where architectural detailing, operational planning and material quality work together. Following our Kensington lounge bar project, this Mayfair destination demonstrates how a carefully coordinated interior can combine an intimate atmosphere with the practical requirements of evening service.
