About Oraanj Interior Design
Designing Interiors Around People, Property and the Way They Live
Oraanj is an award-winning interior design studio in London, creating residential and commercial interiors across the UK and internationally.
Founded by Rachana Gupta, the studio brings together interior design, interior architecture, technical design, bespoke joinery, procurement and project delivery.
For more than 20 years, our approach has remained simple: understand the client, understand the property and create an interior that works beautifully for both.
Our Story: More Than 20 Years of Designing Interiors
Oraanj was founded with the belief that good interior design should be personal.
A home shouldn’t feel like a copy of somebody else’s home. A restaurant shouldn’t simply follow the latest trend. An office shouldn’t look impressive but fail the people working in it.
How do you live?
What isn’t working in the property?
What do you want to change?
What should the space feel like?
What matters most to you?
From there, we develop the layout, materials, lighting, joinery, furniture and details around the individual project.
Over the years, our work has grown from interior design into a wider studio offering interior architecture, technical design, renovation, procurement and project delivery.
Today, Oraanj works across homes, workplaces and hospitality interiors, while keeping the same personal approach that shaped the studio from the beginning.
Meet Rachana Gupta
Founder & CEO of Oraanj Interior Design
Rachana Gupta is the Founder and CEO of Oraanj Interior Design.
With more than 20 years of experience in interior design, Rachana has worked across residential, commercial, workplace and hospitality interiors in London, the UK and internationally.
Her approach begins with understanding the client rather than imposing a particular design style. She believes the best interiors come from getting the practical decisions right first — how the space flows, how it will be used, where furniture belongs and what the property itself needs — before developing the materials and details that give it character.
Rachana remains closely involved in the creative direction of Oraanj and its projects, working with the wider team from the early design stages through to the finished interior.
Her work has received widespread industry recognition, including Interior Designer of the Year at the Eastern Eye Property Awards 2025 and the Outstanding Achievement Award at the British Asian Women’s Awards 2026.
We Don’t Design Every Interior to Look the Same
Your Property Should Still Feel Like Yours
We don’t begin a project with a fixed Oraanj style. We begin with you.
Some clients want something calm and understated. Others want colour, pattern and personality.
A period property may call for a completely different response from a contemporary apartment. A restaurant has different priorities from a family home. An office needs to work differently again.
Our role is to understand those differences and create an interior that feels right for the property and the people using it.
That means listening first, questioning where necessary and making design decisions for a reason rather than simply following what is fashionable.

Design Is Only Part of the Story
We Think About How It Will Actually Be Delivered
A design can look beautiful on screen and still be difficult to implement. That’s why our work considers the practical side of the interior alongside the creative one.
Spatial Layout
Space Planning & Furniture
Space planning affects furniture scale and circulation pathways. We evaluate natural walkways and proportions so pieces fit comfortably without overcrowding rooms.
Illumination
Furniture & Lighting
Furniture affects lighting positions. We coordinate ambient, decorative and task lighting so fixtures illuminate key functional zones, dining tables and seating accurately.
Services
Lighting & Electrical Positions
Lighting affects electrical positions. Early electrical schematics and switch-plate coordination prevent unsightly cable runs and wall channelling later in the build.
Architectural Fit
Joinery, Walls & Sockets
Bespoke joinery affects walls, sockets and surrounding finishes. We engineer made-to-measure cabinetry flush with architectural recesses and integrated power feeds.
Material Detailing
Materials & Surface Junctions
Materials affect how different surfaces meet. We detail clean stone-to-timber threshold junctions, shadow gaps and expansion margins before contractors break ground.
Complex Zones
Kitchens & Bathrooms
Kitchens and bathrooms involve multiple interdependent decisions — plumbing falls, extract ducting, tile setting, sanitaryware and appliance tolerances working together.
The People Behind Oraanj
DIFFERENT SKILLS. ONE PROJECT.
Interior design rarely depends on one person. Depending on the project, our work can bring together expertise across:
CREATIVE DESIGN
Interior concepts, materials, furniture, colour and the overall character of the space.
SPACE PLANNING & INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE
Layouts, circulation, furniture planning and the relationship between different parts of the property.
TECHNICAL DESIGN
Drawings, elevations, lighting, electrical coordination and interior detailing according to the project scope.
BESPOKE JOINERY
Wardrobes, media walls, storage, cabinetry and custom interior elements.
PROCUREMENT
Furniture, lighting, finishes and other agreed items sourced and coordinated around the project.
PROJECT DELIVERY
Coordination between the approved design, suppliers, specialist trades and the wider implementation programme.
How We Work Together: Design Is Collaborative
Good interiors aren’t created in isolation.
Our projects involve structured conversations between clients, designers, technical specialists, suppliers, craftspeople and the people responsible for implementation:
- • The designer establishes the core aesthetic idea and spatial vision.
- • The technical team works through the construction details, regulations and tolerances.
- • A joinery specialist engineers how bespoke elements should be crafted and fitted.
- • A supplier helps resolve the right specification, durability and material lead times.
- • The project delivery team manages site progress and fits the work into the wider programme.
Each person sees the project from a slightly different perspective. Our role is to keep those decisions connected to the original design and the client’s priorities.

Materials & Finishes
Reviewing physical timber veneers, natural stone slabs, architectural brassware and tactile fabrics to ensure durability and aesthetic harmony.

London Is Home, But Our Clients Aren’t Always Based Here
Oraanj’s studio is based in London, and much of our work involves London homes and commercial properties. Some of the people who own those properties, however, live elsewhere.
We work with overseas clients who need a reliable, experienced design team in London to help develop, manage and coordinate their property while they are away.
Depending on the appointment, this can include interior design, technical development, bespoke procurement, renovation coordination and complete turnkey installation.
We also undertake selected international interior design projects where the location, scope and project requirements are suitable.
What Matters to Us
Six core commitments that guide every design decision, project and client partnership.
Empathy
Listen Before Designing
Understanding the client comes before deciding what the interior should look like. We listen carefully to your daily routines, aspirations and concerns before putting pencil to paper.
Usability
Make the Space Work
Layout, circulation, storage and everyday usability matter as much as appearance. A space must function effortlessly when you are actually living or working in it.
Context
Design for the Property
We respond to the architecture, light and natural character of the individual space rather than applying the same repetitive look everywhere.
Precision
Think Through the Details
Lighting, furniture, joinery and materials need to work together. We coordinate junctions, finishes and services so nothing is left to chance during construction.
Integrity
Keep Design & Delivery Connected
Where Oraanj is involved beyond the design stage, we work actively on site to maintain the direct relationship between the approved design drawings and the finished interior.
Partnership
Build Long-Term Relationships
Interior projects can take months and involve many critical decisions. Clear communication, transparency and mutual trust matter throughout every stage of that process.
Our Work: Residential, Commercial & Hospitality Interiors
Private Homes • Apartments • Renovations • Offices • Restaurants • Hospitality
Rather than generic templates, each Oraanj project represents a tailored response to an individual brief, architectural context and lifestyle goal.
