A Greenwich riverside restaurant inspired by Georgian architectural heritage, warm timber and natural stone
Greenwich possesses an extraordinary maritime and architectural heritage, defined by Georgian riverside townhouses and classical colonnades. For this hospitality project, the brief called for a refined British neighbourhood restaurant and café that pays homage to this historic setting whilst offering an efficient, commercially viable dining floorplate.
The interior architecture references Georgian proportions through gentle arched wall niches, tall multi-pane windows, and bespoke fluted walnut joinery. The palette pairs muted olive-green velvet dining chairs with terracotta leather banquettes, solid oak dining tables, honed Arabescato marble counters, and patinated brushed brass wall sconces. By introducing acoustic wall panels disguised behind fabric-wrapped architectural panels, the space maintains acoustic intimacy and warmth throughout day-to-night service.
Georgian Proportions, Acoustic Comfort & Day-to-Night Flexibility
Designing a riverside hospitality setting that transitions smoothly from daytime coffee service to candlelit evening dining.
The layout resolves the dual requirements of a busy morning café and an atmospheric evening restaurant. Front-of-house circulation guides takeaway patrons toward the bespoke marble coffee counter without encroaching upon seated diners enjoying leisurely meals by the riverside windows. Custom fluted walnut panelling conceals structural service risers whilst providing integrated acoustic absorption.
