A Kingston riverside dining room uniting terracotta banquettes, warm timber and backlit bar joinery
Kingston upon Thames combines historic market town charm with a bustling riverside dining promenade. For this hospitality project, the brief called for a refined British neighbourhood restaurant and cocktail bar that captures the vitality of its riverside setting with an elegant yet commercially realistic floorplate.
The interior architecture is organised into distinct spatial zones: an open riverside dining room with continuous terracotta leather banquette seating, a vibrant central bar crowned with warm backlit display shelving, and an intimate private dining suite for corporate and celebratory gatherings. The material palette blends terracotta upholstery, muted olive-green timber detailing, warm English oak table surfaces, honed composite stone, and brushed brass ironmongery, creating an atmospheric backdrop that shifts effortlessly from daytime café trade to evening dining.
Backlit Bar Joinery, Private Dining & Turnkey Flow
Designing flexible seating typologies that maximise yield while preserving a sense of spaciousness.
The primary challenge lay in configuring 84 covers across an irregular riverside floorplate without introducing bottleneck corridors. Continuous banquet runs along structural walls unlock high-density seating, while bespoke fluted screens demarcate the private dining suite without isolating it from the vibrant restaurant hum.
