At Oraanj, we design interiors where architectural structure, material composition, and lighting work together to shape a cohesive living environment. This bespoke luxury villa interior design in Shoreditch, London was created to deliver a refined sequence of spaces defined by strong architectural clarity and carefully controlled ambience.

Working with a South Africa-based client managing their London property remotely, our studio coordinated a structured design process that balanced functional planning with elevated interior detailing. Through the integration of transparent partitions, custom storage systems, and layered lighting design, the final interior achieves a calm yet sophisticated atmosphere that reflects contemporary luxury living.

Client Brief

The client wanted to create a villa interior that felt elegant, organised, and visually connected while maintaining clearly defined functional areas.

The brief focused on three key objectives:

• Develop a cohesive interior language across multiple living zones
• Introduce premium materials that enhance depth and luxury
• Use lighting as a central design element to shape mood and spatial hierarchy

The resulting design delivers a sequence of interiors that feel refined, balanced, and thoughtfully composed.

Spatial Planning and Architectural Layout

The spatial strategy for the villa focused on openness and visual continuity while maintaining clear functional boundaries between different areas of the home.

Glass partitions were introduced to create visual transparency between living, dining, wardrobe, and lounge zones. Open shelving and bespoke storage systems further support this organisation by defining spaces without creating visual heaviness.

This approach allows light to travel freely throughout the interior while ensuring each area retains its own identity and purpose.

Materials and Interior Character

Material selection plays a key role in shaping the character of the villa.

Dark stone surfaces introduce depth and contrast, while warm wood finishes balance the palette with natural warmth. Metal framing elements add structural definition, complementing the refined architectural language of the interior.

Soft upholstery and textured fabrics introduce comfort within the living and lounge areas, creating a balanced composition between structured architectural elements and inviting residential comfort.

The combination of these materials establishes a sense of quiet luxury throughout the home.

Lighting Design and Spatial Atmosphere

Lighting is the defining feature of this Shoreditch villa interior.

Sculptural chandeliers act as visual centrepieces within dining and transition spaces, adding a sense of elegance while drawing attention to the architectural volumes of the rooms. Linear recessed lighting highlights circulation paths and emphasises ceiling geometry, subtly guiding movement throughout the interior.

In bar and display areas, integrated shelf lighting highlights materials and objects, transforming storage elements into decorative features. Wardrobe spaces incorporate concealed LED lighting within cabinetry to provide uniform illumination while enhancing material clarity.

Across living areas, indirect cove lighting softens the atmosphere and introduces gentle ambient illumination.

Rather than relying on brightness alone, the lighting strategy uses contrast, layering, and direction to define spatial hierarchy and create intimate zones within the open-plan layout.
